As shared by Rwimali…

My father is an alcoholic and does provide for the basic need of the family. My mother is the sole bread-earner of the family who works in a tea shop and runs the family with the little amount she gets from the shop. But one day, our mother left us. With no support from her husband (my father), probably she found it difficult to cope, which made her run away. I was 10 years old then. I lived and worked my uncle’s house, where I was also able to continue my studies and support my younger brother with his studies. My other siblings were living in different places working as domestic workers. After my matriculation (class x), I stayed in Kokrajhar for a month in a friend’s house. I got the information of NEDAN Foundations Weaving Destination Campus located in Chandrapara through a neighbour. I approached the staff of NEDAN and expressed my interest in weaving as I did not want to study further and wanted to get a good job. Without any thought, I was appointed as a weaver at Weaving Destination and have been working happily here since 20th July, 2014, earning about INR 4000 (£40) per month.
